Joy Kogawa House
Joy Kogawa wrote about her childhood home in Obasan, a book that’s considered one of the 100 most important Canadian books ever written. The modest bungalow on West 64th Street in Vancouver was saved from demolition by a group of writers and heritage die-hards who believe that the social history of a house is every bit as important as its architectural merit. Wing Sang Building
The Wing Sang Building at 51 East Pender Street, Vancouver was built by Yip Sang in 1889. He lived here with his three wives and his 23 children, and ran an opium factory, a bank and a travel agency. Continue reading
